Social Media Strategy – Valuable For Your Business

Companies have the opportunity to promote their products / services even further than their website allows using social media. There are a number of social media sites that exist. Pixel Effects focuses on creating strategies for three (3) major sites (Twitter, Facebook & LinkedIn) that companies can use to evangelize their brand. Each social media site has a specific method or function for communicating with other users. They are all based on a social model where connection is made by adding users to your profile as fans, friends, followers or colleagues. This allows those connections to access information about your company (profile) and the items posted by your company (status updates, tweets, notes…etc.)

There is a greater importance to using social media for brand marketing aside from making connections. Social media sites, primarily Twitter, are quickly becoming a resource for search engines to gather real-time content regarding specific topics. Google, for example, has begun including a scrolling section of the latest Twitter entries (tweets) on topics that meet the criteria of the terms entered in the search field. That means Google is capturing the conversations that are taking place on Twitter nearly as quickly as the posts are made. What does that mean for a company and why is it important? If you are not part of the conversation, your company loses a valuable opportunity to promote products or services. More and more consumers are using Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to seek opinions about a product or service. These are known as “trust searches”. The feedback from other users helps to shape the opinion and buying decision of the person searching or asking.

Companies need to have a presence on social media to insure they engage in an opportunity to respond to consumers looking for a solution for their needs. The use of social media does not have to be a one-way conversation where the company solely promotes their products over and over. This only shows the lack of understanding by the company of how to use social media…and social media users can see right through a thinly veiled attempt to say “buy what we have”. Brand evangelism requires time and effort to create interest, not just shameless self-promotion.
